Turner Parkinson advises on takeover of Barnsley Football Club

Turner Parkinson’s Corporate team has advised Barnsley Football Club on its takeover by a consortium led by Chinese-American investor Chien Lee.

Chien Lee’s New City Capital and Pacific Media Group, headed by Paul Conway and Grace Hung, have been in talks with the Cryne family for a number of months. The Club have gained English Football League approval for the change in majority shareholder and new shareholders have now taken up their positions on the board of the Club. Patrick Cryne believes that the new ownership has all the synergies, skills and resources needed to make a success of the future of Barnsley Football Club.

Head of Corporate James Sheridan and Associate David Hayes led the TP team, with assistance from Solicitor Luke Philpott and Paralegal Jonathan Garner.

Sheridan commented on the takeover: “We have worked with the Cryne family for many years, and are delighted to have supported them on this transaction. Barnsley is Patrick's home town, and it is great to see this famous old football club begin a new and exciting phase of its development with continued family ownership alongside overseas investors who have already enjoyed considerable success in both football and baseball.”
