So, what does this mean for employment rights? There is very little detail in the Paper, and it provides no new information on workers’ rights. It simply sets out that the Great Repeal Bill will maintain existing EU protections for workers and that these rights will be protected when EU law is converted into domestic legislation.
Whilst it has been reported that the government will seek to end the free movement of people, there is currently no clarification surrounding the position of EU nationals post Brexit and specifically whether they will become subject to the same points based system which currently applies to non EEA nationals. The government proposes to consult with business and communities when considering what action to take.
