Increases to the National Minimum Wage

It has recently been announced that from 1 October 2014 the National Minimum Wage will be increased following recommendations that have been made by the Low Pay Commission. The new rates are as follows:

  • The standard adult rate (for workers aged 21 and over) will be £6.50;
  • The youth development rate (for workers aged between 18 and 20) will be £5.13;
  • The young workers rate (for workers aged under 18 but above the compulsory school age) will be £3.79; and
  • The rate for apprentices will be £2.73.
