Number Of Employment Tribunal Claims Fall - Again ...

Tribunal statistics for the first quarter of 2014 show a continued reduction in the number of claims being brought before the employment tribunals.

The Ministry of Justice’s figures for the period January to March 2014 show that claims brought by individuals dropped 59% when compared to the equivalent period in 2013.  Whilst not as large as the reduction in claims in the first full quarter following the introduction of the new tribunal fees (the figures from October to December 2013 showed a drop of 63%), it remains a significant decrease and a clear indicator of the downward trend.

These figures will no doubt add fuel to Unison’s argument that the introduction of fees denies access to justice for workers with legitimate claims against their employers.  Their appeal against the fee regime is due to be heard at some point between 10 September and 10 December 2014, so watch this space…
